We’re talking fancy flavors, artisan ingredients and a whole lot of gourmet goodness. From fried egg to bubbly wine and serrano pepper, the humble chip has transcended its snack food status to become a culinary canvas.

Francois Lebel is the owner and chip sommelier at La Place Boutique Gourmande, in Quebec City. I call him the King of Chips, because he offers more than 200 different bags of chips in his boutique, a sign of the current trend.

I walked in his store located in the Saint-Roch neighbourhood to meet a chip aficionado who was kind enough to teach me a thing or two about the chip eating lifestyle.
